#84 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2014
A living legend of Rioja, which has survived three centuries, destined to break records for its surprising vivacity of intense cherry color which gives an amazing complexity. Its nose exhibits an aromatic intensity which seduces us with its red fruits, floral notes of truffles, incense and spicy touches. It carresses the palate with satin texture. A Gran Riserva that shows strength, elegant bouquet, fruity intensity and impeccable balance.

You just want to smell this, with a polish and clarity that changes all the time. Aromas of walnuts, dark fruits, ginger, roasted seaweed, soya, iron, rosemary, and lavender. Full-bodied, yet polished and firm. Such tension and form. The length is phenomenal. As always, this is a selection of the best of the best. A blend of 90% tempranillo and 10% mazuelo. Almost all American oak. Aged three years barrel and then three years in bottle. Drink or hold.
Bodegas Marqués de Murrieta Description
An 80 year old single vineyard called La Plana located at the highest peak (485 meters altitude) within our 300 hectare Ygay Estate which surrounds the winery in the southern point of the Rioja Alta wine subzone. It is exclusively elaborated from the excellent quality vintages (The last ones from the XXIth century have been: 2000-2001 and 2004).
Wine Enthusiast: 95 Points
Superb at every checkpoint, this is a world-class wine. Cherry, cassis and earth aromas are spicy and mellow, not bullish or loud. This feels creamy but with enough textural grit to keep things lively, while flavors of vanilla, tobacco and plum are nicely integrated. A mild, medium-long finish epitomizes elegance. Drink now through 2025.
